He Pātai?

Please read through the following frequently asked questions. If we haven’t answered your pātai below then please get in touch.

When making a booking with Waikawa Marae we will also try our best to accommodate your request. Please ensure that you give us as much detail as possible on the initial booking form. If there are any further details that you think we should know than please include these as well.

We will send you a quote and an information form when we process your booking. These need to be confirmed as soon as possible. Once you have received your quote, please either confirm your booking or call our office to discuss any concerns.
 

What happens if our numbers changes once we arrive?

The minimum number that we cater for here at Waikawa is 20 people. If your numbers are lower than that we will charge for the minimum allowance. If your numbers increase than you will be charged for the extra people accordingly irrespective of adults or children.
 

We are a small business group (under 20 people) but require catering for our hui, what happens there?

The minimum number for catering is 20 people. However, if the Marae management and catering staff are told well in advance and agree to cater your hui then, kei te pai.

Can we self-cater?

Waikawa Marae only allows for the following roopū to self-cater:

Te Ātiawa ki Te Waka-a-Māui iwi hui, personal affiliated whānau, and Queen Charlotte College. All self-catered hui are pre-approved through our Trustees and our Marae Manager. Please do not just assume you can self-cater and always check with us first.

Can we bring our own kai onto the marae?

In the instance where there are special dietry needs, our caterers will attempt to meet this. Where the need is uncommon and persons wish to bring their own food, yes this is encouraged.
Bringing special kai for your pēpi is also encouraged and we make allowances when food is brought in to compliment or embellish the hui, wānanga or other event.

Are there laundry facilities available for us to use?

Kāo. Unfortunately, although we do have a facility on the marae this is used only for our own catering staff. It is not, under any circumstances to be used by our whānau whānui or manuhiri. We do have a clothes line if you wish to use it.

Do we need to bring our own linen?

Kāo. All sheets and pillow cases are provided within your booking, as is the laundering of these. You will need to bring your own towels and other personal items.

is someone available to talk about the marae complex?

Āe. If this is something you wish to have included during your stay then please let us know when you are making your booking. Please be aware that this is subject to hou kaīnga being available.

Is alcohol consumption allowed at Waikawa Marae?

Kāo. Waikawa Marae has a ‘no alcohol or illegal substance policy’. This includes all areas of the marae grounds. If you wish to apply for a special occasion then please contact our Marae Manager and complete a ‘special circumstances application form’. Any decisions will be at the discretion of our Marae Trustees.

What are the BOUNDARIES for smoking at Waikawa Marae?

Waikawa Marae is a smokefree complex. Please see the Manager for designated areas.
